I think it's a standalone. A pity, but it probably works better that way.
Finished the New Policeman. It doesn't improve much, I wouldn't recommend it.

They really are, aren't they? And there nice and quick reads too. Hoping to read his new book, Nation, at some point too - sounds interesting.
It's really awful that he has early-onset Alzheimer's though...:(
I'm reading The New Policeman by Kate Thompson now...so far ok, but I don't think I'll bother to read anthing else by her unless it really improves. It's alright, but not brilliant or really my thing.
Alzheimer's?! Really?
Ugh, what an awful disease. Your memories are the one of the only things that make you YOU, and it takes that away. It also makes you lose the OTHER thing that makes you you--your personality. My great-grandma was the sweetest kindest person, and Alzheimer's gave her weird mood swings and, ugh, it's just a terrible disease.
And, on the Da Vinci Code, yeah, it's quick-moving and engaging, but it's really kind of stupid when you think about it.
People, myself among them, freak out when they read the Da Vinci code because you think, Well, then the whole Jesus/Mary theory HAS to be true, I mean it's in this painting...but when you think about it, just because it's an old painting doesn't validate the whole theory. It just shows that Da Vinci believed in that particular theory, not that it's the truth.
And Robert Langdon is such a Mary Sue. I mean, he's a Harrison Ford lookalike? C'mon, people.
And, anyways, Angels & Demons is much better, IMHO.

Just re-read "The Goblin Wood" by Hilari Bell this weekend. It's not very deep, or complex, but it's very entertaining! Has anyone read it?

Alzheimer's?! Really?
Yes, it's awful. He plans to keep writing for as long as possible and is trying not to let it affect him too much, but ultimately it doesn't look good. :(

Really!?!?! aww, alzheimers sucks. I hope to goodness that I never get it *fingers crossed*.
I got half way through THe New Policeman and then I gave up. I don't usually give up on books, but there was something about it.... i dunno, I just couldn't get into it. I liked some of her other stuff, but his book was just.....blegh. :(

Ahhh, that's so terrible. Really. Just when you were beginning to be okay with the world, then you see something as tragic and awful as this.
Anyway, rereading the Dark is Rising Sequence. Anyone read it? I read it first back in like sixth grade, and since I remember hardly any of it, I'm rereading it.
