Do you mean Sam? Cuz if you mean Sam... well yeah, he was sometimes annoying when he kept pushing off being Abhorsen, but that was totally fine cuz we found out he was destined for something else equally cool (I'm trying not to give it away to people who haven't read the book).
Oh wait, maybe... Nicholas is the one who annoyed you?

To be honest, I was disappointed by the end of Abhorsen as well, it felt a bit contrived to me. I really admire Garth Nix's writing (and in person he is EXTREMELY charming, let me tell you) but that deux ex machina feel is something I'm going to try very hard to avoid in The Singing. Only time will tell, of course - but I suspect this one will be the hardest to write of the lot, and that is quite probably true of all final novels in a series.

that moment when they met... eep I've forgotten her name, but she was one of the original seven and was like time itself or something...? And she talked to Mogget...
I think that was...Astareal? In Alliel's Well? Yeah, that bit was great...especially how she had the River of Death behind her, or something, I thought that was well done.
Abhorsen was great, but I agree, not as good as the others. Lirael was my favourite, so I guess anything that came after it probably wasn't going to please me as much. Also, although the ending was very climatic, I found some parts of the book irritating - like how it took so long to find Nick and make him realise what was going on. I spent half the book gritting my teeth thinking, "Come ON! Dont' you GET it??"

Ah! That was her name, Astarael, thank you. For me... I guess that even though I didn't enjoy Abhorsen as much as I enjoyed Lirael, Abhorsen was still good great - but I do agree, it did drag in some parts. It took Sam a pretty long time to figure out his special powers, even though it became fairly obvious in some parts...
OOh yea. I love Mogget! He's hilarious. Garth Nix captured the essence of cats perfectly, lol.

Oooh. I read A Great and Terrible Beauty and I loved it! I read Rebel Angels as well, and while it was good, I think I liked the first book best. Great reads, though, I adore the Victorian era setting.

Was it written by Donna Jo Napoli? Cuz I read a Chinese version of Cinderella by her but I can't remember what it was called...
