I read LOTR in 2001 after i saw the movie and couldn't wait a year to find out what happened next, I made mum go out and buy the book the next day (the 3-in-1 version, over $50, which is around 100 pounds  ). I got it on a Saturday and finished by Thursday, i stayed up until about 3am most nights reading it... fun times :DEr... are you sure that's right? I've checked it on 2 different currency converters and $50 (Australian) is about £21.1765. Possibly a slightly more sensible result. Could you have converted GBP to Australian dollars by accident? (£50 is $117.932, as of 16:35 GMT, Friday 27th January 2006) Sorry if I'm being too pedantic.

Anyway, to keep this on topic: I'm currently reading my way through the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant by Stephen Donaldson - at least, I will be if I ever get all my Admissions work done  . After that, I have two/three more authors lined up to read from the school library, and after that I'm probably back to searching the shelves. You would think my school's libraries (plural) would have plenty of fantasy, but no, they don't seem to have all that much that I haven't read  .

I've been searching through this thread, and I like the sound of some of the books and authors listed, especially Sara Douglass. I've read a sample chapter online of the Axis Trilogy (I think) and enjoyed it. I'll have to try and get hold of it at some point.

movie? ooo but heres the blurb for people who havn't read it:

while in paris on buisness, harvard symbologist robert langdon receives an urgent late-night phone call. the elderly curator of the louvre has been murdered inside the museum, a baffling cipher found near the body. as langdon and a gifted french cryptologist, sophie neveu, sort through the bizarre riddle, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of da vinci- clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.
the stakes are raised when langdon uncovers a startling link: the late curator was involved in the priory of sion- an actual secret society whose members included sir isaac newton, botticelli, victor hugo, and da vinci, among others. langdon suspects they are on the hunt for a breathtaking historical secret, one that has proven through the centuries to be as enlightening as it is dangerous. in a frantic race through paris, and beyond, langdon and neveu find themselves matching wits with a faceless powerbroker who appears to anticipate their every move. unless they can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle, the priory's secret-and an explosive ancient truth- will be lost forever.

it was a bit long, but there it is. hope you like it! :D

I really didn't like the Da Vinci Code (maybe im just a picky reader!)..For a book that is still on the best-seller list I was incredibly disappointed. Not much character devolopement, not a good plot-line, they solve everything so easy, and it is wwayyyyyy to easy of a read.
