Forgotten title

Long ago I read a book about a boy who's friend dies and he takes her to his attic and re-animates her body using parts from his robot(?). I's been years, so I don't remember much about it. It was made into a movie with very little connection to the book, I remember feeling very ripped off :(

Any ideas?
