I'm contemplating buying The Lon Tobyn Chronicles by this author.
Anyone read it and can say if it's good or not?

I've read this series. One good thing about this author - he knows how to tell a story and then FINISH it without having to give us an umpteen number of books. This is a trilogy that actually ends with 3 books. :-()
I really enjoyed the first book in the series. There was good character development without too much extraneous detail. However, the second book kind of dragged, but the third book wrapped up the series nicely and moved along well. I especially liked the magic system and the mage/bird bonding cycle. I give this series 3.5/5 stars.
