After a brief foray into non-fiction, I have happily returned to the realms of fantasy. I'm about 200 pages into The Briar King by Greg Keyes. I'd heard mixed reveiws of it, so I figured I'd see for myself. So far I've been digging it. The characters are all pretty interesting, and I like them for the most part so far.

My only gripe is that lots of place names are mentioned and visited, unfortunately, the map is kinda hard to read. It's proving to be an eye strain.

Anyhow, so far I'm happy to be reading this book.

Keyes...IMO a very underrated author who places very highly just below the elite.

I'm currently reading Winterbirth-super read so far.

Not far to go in The Scar, really enjoying it, but left it in work on Friday so began Red Seas Under Red Skies yesterday. Now I don't know which to carry on with, lol. I'm thinking a long session tonight to finish The Scar.

I have just finished the Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

I started this a few weeks ago but had to put it down after 150 pages as I just couldn't take the name of the Trollocs !! It made me chuckle everytime I read it and I couldn't take them seriously, so I gave up. Went back last week to give it another go and this time I loved it. It really does have a slow start and Trollocs is a stupid name, but thankfully once they set out on their journey the fun begins and the book had a great pace that I really enjoyed.
I know the series deteriorates further along, but for now, I am enjoying them.

Now, not sure what to pick up next.......the second Jordan book, on to the third Steven Erikson (where my heart truly lies, but want to savour them slowly) or to start the Mordants Need omnibus by Stephen Donaldson which will arrive tomorrow......oh decisions, decisions :D

Bet I'll have a look at my to read pile and choose something else entirely LOL

I'd like to know your thoughts about Mordant's Need.....
I've heard lots of good things about it, and am considering purchasing the very same omnibus.

I haven't posted for a while but I have been reading! I'm sort of juggling several books as it was my birthday last month and I got a LOT of book vouchers. So I now have a to read pile to die for. Except I can't get through the books!!

The main two books I am reading are 'Red Seas under Red Skies' by Scott Lynch, and 'Storm Front' by Jim Butcher. I have started both, and will probably go with Red Seas for now, as it is the second in a trilogy & the first is fairly fresh in my mind.

Of what I have read so far, Storm Front has a strong protagonist and I like his voice, but I'm not sure about the writing style. A friend swears by him so I imagine I'll read on for the plot alone. Red Seas has thrown me right back into the world of Lamora, and although it is a fun, interesting world, the flowery descriptions (and I'm only three or four chapters in) have already taken their toll. Also, there was something missing in the first book and I have a feeling it is missing in this one too...I'll report back once I figure out what exactly it is!

My only gripe is that lots of place names are mentioned and visited, unfortunately, the map is kinda hard to read. It's proving to be an eye strain. What I usually do is scan the map at higher resolution and then print it out on a full page. You can fold the page in quarters and then use it as a bookmark.

I just finished the Children of Hurin, I wasn't sure if I would like it given some of the comments, but found it to be entertaining and a worthwhile read. I do have to say that unless you are a Tolkien fan, you may find it a challenge.
