Hi,

I just started McCammon's 'Swan Song' today. It seems pretty good so far. I can not figure out one event so far.

What was the decision the president made just before he died? What was the code he was typing supposed to do? And how did the bus hit his plane? Did a missile come up from under the wrecked bus, out of a silo, maybe, and accidentally launch it at the plane???

I'm sure I'll feel stupid when I get the answer but this just didn't click for me.

From what I can remember his last decision was to push the button to launch all the missiles that would lead to total annihilation, as technically he is the most powerful man in the world. The bus is just for effect, the nuke explosion was so big that it launched the bus into the plane like in a movie (if you know what I mean) unfortunately the plane and the bus were going to collide inevitably. It could also be symbolic but its like SFX for the imagination. I hope I made sense
