Anne Rice is slipping in her writing. This book was the closest thing I've seen to being hack work that she's ever put out, and considering the esteem to which I usually behold Rice, that's a statement of some kind.
Perhaps it's time she tried something new, instead of beating a dead horse with yet more tragic vampire stories.
After all, she hasn't touched werewolves yet.

I agree about her writing. She's said before that she won't ever touch on werewolves though, because her sister Alice Borchardt writes a lot about them.
I've never read her work (Alice's) myself, but I quite liked the excerpt I managed to get a hold of for my site, and might pick up a book of hers at some stage.

Vampire Chronicles was good up until Memnonch; then it all fell flat. I tried Servant of the Bones--very disjointed and not very good at all.
I liked The Witching Hour up until the end-which almost ruined the book for me.
I am starting The Silver Wolf by Borchardt today.

Aleya:
Sorry for the delay. Finished The Silver Wolf a few weeks ago and didn't like it at all.
It was one of the most predictable books I've ever read. I had high hopes considering she is Anne Rice's sister and I enjoyed the early books of The Vampire Chronicles, and I like wolves/werewolves; but alas, it was rubbish. She could have done so much more with the book. The beginning was not bad, but it fell REALLY flat and I figured out what would happen about 50 pages into the story. The scenes with the werewolves were okay, but just that--Okay. I think she was trying to do TOO much in the book.
I also noticed alot of typos as well.
Recommendation to avoid.

Aww, that's a shame. I'm quite into werewolves. Guess Alice skipped the family writing gene? :/
Thanks for your thoughts, anyhow.
