Waiting for Release Dates

At one time in my life I said that I would never read an incomplete series. Now here I am in the middle of about four waiting for books. I like it when authors are consitent and you have some idea about when the book is coming out, like Terry Brooks who has an official web site where I can find stuff out about when things are coming out. I have been really annoyed with Robert Jordan. I was really excited because I finally found out the title of book ten "Crossroads of Twilight" apparently people on this web-site have known for a while, but I havn't been on recently since I have been busy student teaching. WHat I want to know is Why is it being realsed in November in the UK, but they don't know the US realease date except that it will probably be in 2003. I also know that the Harry Potter #5 is supposed to be coming out soon, but once again they can't give us a realease date. I keep hearing rumors, the latest being May, but if it were true wouldn't we have heard something official. I think that publishers should be more considerate of readers and not keep us in suspense for so long.

I don't know if there's set date for HP book five. I don't think there is actually.

The publishers have almost full control of when they publish a book. They do this when they think the timing is most favourable. Lately the UK publishers have published a lot of books earlier than their US counterparts. The same probably applies to Jordan's new book.

Publishers also set unrealistic deadlines for publication (often before thewbook is finished!) and then change the publication date later. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif

From 'www.book info.com', and 'www.thealienonline.net':

'The latest word from Bloomsbury, publishers of the Harry Potter books, is that the next installment most probably won't be out until the Autumn.

Bloomsbury, and Scholastic, J.K. Rowling's US publisher, were originally hoping for a July release and still have their digits crossed that book 5 will be out in time to benefit from the rush of interest that's bound to surround the second movie, which will be released in November. But neither publisher is 'rushing' J.K. - they're happy for the book to come out when the book is ready to come out'.

And I'm pretty sure JK Rowling's said in an interview that the series is written and locked away somewhere.

If Orbit the UK publisher of Jordan realeases "Crossroads of Twilight" in November(Jordan comfirmed this) i'm pretty sure Tor will release it at about the same time. Where did you get 2003 from?

According to Locusmag.com, Crossroads of Twilight will have a November release for both the US and the UK. However, these dates are all subject to change, as we all find out some time or another. Just keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks for the input. I think it is easier to wait when you know for how long you will be waiting. It says the 2003 release date for WoT #10 in the news section of this web site. Hopefully it is wrong and it will be in November in both the US and the UK. I don't know though. Sometimes waiting for something and anticipating it is more fun then when you actually have it. Like when you wait five years for a movie to be released and then watching it just isn't as fun as you thought it would be. Hopefully this is not true about the books i am waiting for and they will be just as good as I am hoping they will be. (I'm not really worried about being disappointed with Harry, but you never know with Robert Jordan- this next book could be a disappointment.)

I read a wonderful interview with Jordan's editor a while back, talking about the rumour that they were sitting on books 7/8/9/10, rather than publishing them. The editor in question swears a 6 week turn around between Jordan handing in his mss and the finished book shipping to stores... which means the publisher can SAY November all it wants - but it will only KNOW November in October... and if Jordan's site says 2003, I am thinking he might just be a bit behind schedule ... again... but we all know the stories of Crown being edited one page at a time in a locked hotel room, right?

Yup, I find the waiting very delightful thing and really enjoy when I know how much time it is until I have the book in my hands.

As for Jordan, I know that it'll be November and it's written in Tor's Shedule. As for Harry Potter I know that the author have written all the books from the saga. We are just waiting for release date.

1) The next WOT book is NOT on Tor's schedule.
2) JK Rowling did NOT finish the fifth HP book, that is the reason for the delay from this summer to this fall (which is still only tentative).

The Next Wheel of Time Book! (18. Apr 2002)
Robert Jordan's newest book in the Wheel of Time Saga is called 'Crossroads of Twilight.' It is scheduled to be released the U.K. on November 7, 2002. A North American date has not been set, but, will mostly likely follow in 2003.

Who the heck wrote that and who was there source for the US release date? No WoT sites I know of have even suggested 2003 and they get there info as soon as Tor says anytink Jordan related. If you can't come up with a credible source me tinks you should retract that statement instead of misleading the public. Tor have always released Jordan before Orbit and as someone else stated they would not sit on a finisned manuscript because they know the backlash would be huge.

Bah now i'm pissed off at Fitz's over zealous moderating and the person who writes the news for this site. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif Bad day for me I guess.
