Forgive me, if this has already been discussed.

Over the years we have great authors who surnames are actually considered as "Brand Names" since the surname basically guarantee sales. Examples are Tolkien, Feist, Eddings (I had to FitzFlagg!), Donaldson, Jordan, Zelanzy, Hobbs and Martin. Forgive me if I have forgotten someone else significant.

What about the upcoming ones? I must admit I rarely touch authors who I haven't heard of as they are not "branded" yet. But I am running out of books to read from the well known ones!

Can anyone suggest/recommend to me any new talent that I should read regarding fantasy (especially series).

Well, they are mentioned all over the board..all you have to do is pay attention.

Belgarion, I would recommend you try Kate Elliott (if you haven't already). Her Crown of Stars series is really excellent. The books are Kings Dragon, Prince of Dogs, The Burning Stone and the latest is Child of Flame. The last book, Crown of Stars is due out late this year, I think.

Also read JV Jones a Cavern of Black Ice - brilliant!

What do you mean FitzChiv? I looked all over the board and cannot find any similarities. Belgarion is asking for UPCOMING authors NOT suggestions of other authors like the rest of the forum is asking.

Belgarion, I have read a series called "FireChill - The legends of Swer Faversham" written by an UPCOMING author called Cob Mervin. He looks an excellent prospect. They are his first trilogy which have only been printed in England at the moment. I hear Barnes & Nobles are taking on him now! (Again I may be wrong as that is a rumour).

Oh, by the way Belgarion, I sympathise with you as the forum seem to gang up on you. I just want to say that I think David Eddings is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. I will side up with you!! Are you single? Cos I am free at the moment! I would like to chat up with an Eddings fan!

Browsing a bookstore the other day I came across a book called Rhapsody by, I think her name is, Elisabeth Hayden.
I've never heard of her but she had quite a few good comments from different people on the back cover.

Crikes, 3 replies already after 40 minutes!

Thanks Shadowen, I have heard of Elliot and Jones, I will try and get the Cavern of Black Ice series as many people are mentioned it with good reviews.

Well Well Bluehawk? This is not a chat-up room!! I am afraid I am spoken for and have a lovely young lady who I am gonna marry in a coupla years! But, don't despair, you are welcome to flirt with me!! As long as that there is all to it! It is nice to side up with me. But the Forum aren't ganging up to me or being nasty. They are expressing their views (which is the sole purpose of the forum, I beleive) and rightly should they so. I have been a bit vindictive and vehemounous, but that is because we all care about our views!! We are all friends (I think!!)

Oh my manners, welcome to the forum Bluehawk!! You can be my right hand woman!!

:-)))) xxx (For you, for being nice to me!)

PS: Thanks Polgara, for finding me less annoying!!

Hey FitzChiv, must you always be difficult, a straight answer would be preferable...bluehawk=belgarion,whatever. I would have to second the JV Jones suggestion. I know she is still considered a new comer, I have not read her other trilogy, have read favorable reviews though. I was blown away by Cavern of Black Ice! In fact I admit that after I read it I visited her web site and got a look at the little lassie and, well....have a bit of a crush on her. It will pass, but my anticipation for book 2 Fortress of Grey Ice won't!

Matthew Woodring Stover--I've only read Heroes Die by him, but I will be picking up most of his other stuff based on that masterpiece. Blade of Tyshalle, the sequel was just published.

John Marco--Tyrants and Kings trilogy, and his first hardcover should be out early next year with DAW books The Eyes of God.

I've read Elizabeth Haydon and she is a pretty good writer, looking forward to her next one Destiny.

China Mieville--author of King Rat and he just won the Arthur C. Clarke prize (best spec fic published in UK) for Perdido Street Station. I haven't read him yet, but I'll be picking up his books next bookstore trip (along with Stover's books)

FitzChiv sort of had a point, though. There are various recommendation topics and the Whatca yall reading topic as well. BUT not as many topics like this--Next Wave writers type thing.

Belgarion, I AGREE with you about Eddings, he is "brand name" but you forgot Goodkind http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gifand Tad Williams http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Bluehawk Belgarion (if you are the same) ONLY ONE Screen name per member!
