The resurrection of the GRR Martin topic has giving me an idea for a topic.
Which moment in the aSoIaF series shocked you the most?
This will probably contain big spoilers, so anyone who hasn't read the series would do good to stay away.

The original shock is still the one... Eddard Stark actually getting beheaded... I wa waiting for the paragraph that explained how he managed to 'survive'... but it never came...

... from that moment, I knew GRRM was special.

BTW... Jamie Lannister sends his regards http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am only half way through book 3 but I had to post this.
I found it hard to belive that Sansa's direwolf was killed off.I was thinking that it was going to be a simbolic(hope I spelt that right) thing Martin was doing what with 5 kids and 5 wolfs oh and that white one for Jon.
The death of lord Stark was a shock and like Dennizm was waiting to see how he would walk back in.My only hope now is that Arya's wolf some how walks back in from being chased away.

Ned, obviously... he was the first, after all.
But apart from that,

The Red Viper's death (he was just so cool..)
*All* the weddings...

Most shocking development of the whole series for me - SoS spoiler follows----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rob's death. I thought the whole Lannister overthrow would be centered around him leading the armies and becoming King. Well, my theory just got blown away, didn't it? LOL!

I couldn't agree more with Lady Fox...still reeling from that one 6 months after finishing the book.

Though, for some reason, I think we may see Ned in some spirit form. It's a stretch, but....

I gotta say there was two big shocks which everyone has named.

**** Spoiler ********

Ned's death, and the Red Wedding, Robbs death.

FitzFlagg, I hope we do see Ned's spirit. He still my Favourite character in the series, even though he only came in one book. He made a big impact on me, it seems.

******* End Spoiler ********

SPOILER SOS

The Red vipers death was probably the part that shocked me most. I was thinking to myself through that entire chapter: The red viper has to win, because if he doesn't Tyrion will die and there's no way Martin would kill him off.....but on the other hand, Gregor can't die he's gotta be all set up for fighting the hound later in the series.
I was caught in a situation where I couldn't predict anything because either way was authors Suicide for martin. I had no idea how it would end, and when It did I was blown away.
