I'm a Hindu by birth but I don't practice any religion. As a matter of fact I'm agnostic.
Religion has it's place in books. It makes a story closer to real life since religion plays a huge part in most people's day to day lives.
In Tolkien's work the Valar are always ther in the background. However, their actions are real enough and they have limits. Their 'magic' is subtle and not abracadabra. Those are the kinds of gods I like.

I, too, tend too enjoy magic when it's not "in your face" like a fireball or something like that.

Oh, *grins sheepishly*, I was wondering why that didn't come under the religion topic. Guess I must have clicked new topic by mistake. However, now that the topic's been created I'll ask something anyway. What should I know about Fitz? Besides the fact that he's a moderator of course. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
