*smile* I guess I'm the only one from Finland here. Talk about being outnumbered by foreigners! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

It doesn't matter where you're from: USA, England, Finland... You are a fantasyreader like the rest of us. This is a world of it's own...

Moi Arwena http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif I think it's great to see so many people from all over the world here, although I must say that it would have been nice to see more people from Norway though...

I enjoy knowing you all are are out there typing away from somewhere across the sea, I have travelled quite a bit and wondered if any of you have been over here (USA). For those before me. I have been to London, and Denmark. I would love ot go back to either. So much there to spark the imagination...Here you come up with a different picture, we dont have the relics of a grand medieval past as you do. We do have our ancient ancestors relics and earth mounds, and you get a different type of picture from that...Has there been any fantasy that uses that as a backround to build its world?

We do have a lot of Native American historical things here in the US, some cultures in fantasy are based on some Native American cultures, I believe, but not many.
A few of the things I am writing, or plan to write, will/are based on they Native American mythology.
I like the international perspective, too. Some Aussie's frequent the forum and I heard out about Sara Douglass before she was just recently published here in the US.

Well, i'm from Israel, and i don't see many books based on arab legends and history, other regions of the world are outnumbered too compared to european based fantasy, japanese, chinese, hindu or african based fantasy are not many.
I do like the european based fantasy the most and i don't want to see less of that, but it would be nice to read something a little different somtimes. Like Feist and Wurts' Empire Trilogy that is based on japanese history.

Hi FitzChivalry - just a little note about there not being many Arab-based fantasies around. Although they are definately in the minority, I have read a few. Have you read these?
There is the "Rose of the Prophet" (Wiess/Hickman) which I think you've already said you've covered in another topic. There's also the Outremer series of which I have read the first 2
1. Tower of the King's Daughter
2. Feast of the King's Shadow
I thoroughly enjoyed these and am waiting in anticipation for the rest to come out.
Then there's a couple of stand-alone novels
The Lions of Al-Rassan - Guy Kay
Alhambra - Colin de Silva
That's all I can think of at the moment and although I notice we seem to have a bit of a difference in tastes http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif , perhaps if you have't read any of the above, you might enjoy them.
