Best book in fantasy for:
1. Action
2. Characterisation
3. Story line and plots.
4. Bad guys
5. Most creative
Please give the title and author of the book you think was best for action. Then choose another book and author for characterisation, you may choose the same book as before.
Also comments are welcome for your decisions.

Metosblat...you really need to get out more. No offense.
My choices:
1) Heroes Die, Matthew Stover
2) The Book of the New Sun, Gene Wolfe (which really *is* one book...)
3) Ash: A Secret History, Mary Gentle
4) dunno
5) Perdido Street Station, China Miéville

Hey Meto, I think junior was trying to imply that you need to diversify your reading list- kinda like a "my list is better than your list" thing. Yeeesh, that kind of snideness is not nice, didn't your momma teach ya no manners junior .

Hmmm….this is always a tough one. Most of mine will be by series...
1. Action
TIE Heroes Die by Stover & Farland's Runelords. You don't get a chance to catch you breath between pages.
2. Characterization
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever.
3. Story line and plots.
Another Tie Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams & Stephen King's Dark Tower
4. Bad guys
hmm I liked RJ's Forsaken at first, but they keep coming back http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif, so forget that. I’ll have to go with another toss up--Gerald Tarrant from The Coldfire Trilogy by CS Friedman and Biagio from John Marco’s Tyrants and Kings trilogy, both very complex and more than they outwardly seem.
5. Most creative
Tad Williams, w/Memory, Sorrow and Thorn he turned epic fantasy on its rear working so wonderfully within the bounds of the genre and with Otherland he was at the top of the game creating all the virtual worlds and creating some great characters.
And oh yeah…
Play nice everybody
