I have read alot of books but my fantasy collection is a little poor...Pratchett is my favorite author and I also enjoy Tom Holt, Jasper Fford, Madeleine L'Engle, Terry Brooks, Frank L Baum, Eoin Colfer, JK Rowling, Phillip Pullman, Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, CS Lewis....

I want to try Robin Hobb next...

I have heard of heaps of authour like GRRM, Jordon, Zeinley on forums but I am worried they might be a bit to 'serious' for me...

Can anyone recommend something I might like, or things I should avoid?

Also, I really like a happy ending, I am a soppy girl and not to into violance and sad endings....this was my problem with Lord of the Rings..to violant for me...

PS sorry for the spelling mistakes!

I've been a huge Pratchett fan for years and I really enjoyed A Song of Ice and Fire so far. But I don't think one could successfully compare Pratchett and Martin. And if you really require a happy ending, stay clear of Martin. While reading, I had some moments that felt like watching a horror movie (or a talk show on tv) ... I actually had to avert my eyes from the book and shudder ... I think the novels are sometimes called "gritty"... well, "grisly" would be another one to describe them :p But at the same time they are sooo wonderful. Ahem, don't read them!

Robert Rankin is usually recommended to people who like Pratchett.

Try Robert Asprin's MythAdventure's series.

Even better would be the Thieves' World series. They are a shared world anthology series, less comedic than Discworld, but still good. Edited and created by Asprin as well, by the way.

Hi
I' a huge Pratchett fan (I went so far as to write my thesis on him - and it still didn't spoil them). Quite frankly, I've tried Tom Holt and Robert Rankin but in my opinion (and it's just that) they are poor imitations of the original. Another fantasy series I've enjoyed that wasn't too grisly was Mercedes Lackey's Heralds of Valdemar. It's not humorous per se, but you may enjoy it.
