Help!

A teacher needs recommendations for SF books 4th graders (9-10-11 year olds) would enjoy reading. I've gone with the Coville Alien series, Cameron's Flight to the Mushroom Planet, Keys' Forgotten Door, Scieszka's Time Warp Trio, Christopher's White Mountains, and Crilley's Akiko. Anyone have any other suggestions for those hard to please kids?

A Rustle in the Grass - not exactly sci-fi mechanical - the characters are insects - but it's a good story.

Heinlein wrote a whole slew of 'Juvenile' novels

I would suggest Nor Crytal Tears by Alan Dean Foster. I don't beleive there is any objectional materials but check to be sure. The book starts out from the alien's (bug) point of view as first contact is made with humans. Also, maybe a bit Hollywood, but the Han Solo trilogy by Brian Daley that starts with Han Solo at Stars End.

Foster might be a bit much for 4th graders, same with Daley. Maybe if they were in 6th or 7th grade. An obvious answer is Wrinkle in Time.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can't believe I forgot Wrinkle. I've never run across Chocky - so I'll have to look that one up.:)

Obviously, they're very dated, but Asimov's 'Lucky Starr' books should do the trick.

And yeah, 'A Wrinkle in Time' is a no-brainer.

Nor Crystal Tears and Han Solo Trilogy are no worse they the Heinlein or Asimov books listed so far. I have read many of them.

"No worse"!????

Wash your mouth out...

Heinlein and Asimov (neither of whom are my favourite authors by any means) are so much better writers than Alan Dean Foster will ever be.

'No worse' indeed.
