Anyone read this series and has an opinion on it? i'm contemplating ordering it.

Thumbs up from me. I found Fancher's ability to portray her characters to be exceptional. You start off drawing conclusions about them from their early portrayal, and she deftly manages, through their actions, to win you over to seeing them the opposite way, or very close to. A worthwhile series to read.

The concept of this trilogy looks interesting. A renaissance-like city, three brothers who distrust each other and have to team up against their evil aunt, a combination of fantasy and technology.

I also know this series is often listed as having strong gay/bisexual content. If I'm not mistaken one of the brothers is homosexual.

Never heard of it, but I do feel like commenting on the title. Isn't it suicide to call a fantasy novel "Anything of the Rings" just because of LotR's dominance? I'm surprised the editors/publishing house went through with it. I'm not accusing this book of being a Tolkein clone at all since I know nothing about it, just with a title like that people/general buying public might be led to that perception.

Though there is the possibility it might be something balking at fantasy clices, kindof like how Carey's Godslayer has a very overtly Gandalf'esque dude on the cover, but the whole series is about breaking down the perception of ultimate evil.

I thought exactly the same thing. Odd choice of title, because even if the novel is utterly different to LOTR it almost seems connected simply by the name.

I picked up on the title too, I wouldn't have gone for that if I was naming my book...

Anyway, it sounds interesting, I've never read a book that goes into any detail with homosexuality - I couldn't really be bothered with any book that is overly sexual - but I might give this a look. Maybe.

I think it may be a bit harsh to jump on the author or publisher for using the word "Rings" in their title. The rings in question here are something entirely different than Tolkein's - they are mechanical type things used to generate energy. To say that certain words or terms are "off limits" because Tolkien used them and therefore people might be confused is a bit limiting for any other authors who come along. This series is also not new - it's been out for a number of years already.

I don't recall any particular homosexual content in these books at all. If it's there, it's certainly not a prevalent theme or a major point of the series. It's primarily a story of dynastic struggle.
