There are no more good books.
I like Jordans Eddings books and also the sword of truth story. I would like to hear about similar books.
I don't like J.R.R Tolkiens books or books where the main charachter does no magic or isn't heroic enough. So all of you who think that Jordan and Eddings writes bad books, dont give me any help. OK

As I haven't read the Eddings books, yet (but plan to, and don't even try to talk me out of it), what do you like about these books. The books I read don't seem to be in the mainstream as the authors that I enjoy never get mentioned on these boards, or any others that I see. Elaborate on what you like, and I can try to help.

I have to admit that I'm always shocked by fantasy readers who have not read (or even heard of George R.R. Martin). The internet buzz GRRM is generating is hard to miss. Not to mention he is nominated for a Hugo Award this year. A warning, this is not light, fluffy fantasy. This is grim, and at times, gutwrenching stuff.
The number of fantasy fans who haven't yet read GRRM is rapidly shrinking, but for those who haven't discovered them, I urge you, read GRRM's A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series!!!!

Some other authors you might try:
Mark Anthony - The Last Rune series
Robin Hobb - Farseer trilogy and The Liveship Traders series
Guy G. Kay - Fionavar Tapestry

I know that I have run this into the ground, but Neil Gaiman is an excellent author. Read his books. Neverwhere and American Gods and Stardust are great novels by him.

Ok, you dont like gritty no magic books,
Try Raymond Feist - Magician to get you started, very good book.
But give George RR Martin - Game of Thrones a go, Very Very good book far better then Jordans latest books and alot better than Goodkind.
