Has anyone read Steven Erikson's 'A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen' series?, which so far include;
1. Gardens of the Moon
2. Deadhouse Gates

I read Gardens of the Moon, and thought it was ok. It got rave reviews though, but I wouldn't rate it as a favourite.

You'll want to read the Second one in the series "Deadhouse Gates", That is better than the first one, and you find out much more.

Steven Eriksons series so far is awesome. His and GRRM are my favourite series at the moment.
The books can be read as stand alone, as each book finishes, without leaving you on a cliffhanger.
I highly recommend it.
Here's a review for people who may be interested in 'Gardens of the Moon':
A review by Neil Walsh
Gardens of the Moon is currently available from Bantam in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Steve Erikson has also recently signed on with a German publisher. North Americans, however, will have to content themselves with ordering from abroad -- until some cunning publisher over that way gets a whiff of Erikson's talent...... click this link for rest of the review: http://www.sfsite.com/06a/gard58.htm

And here's a review for the second book 'Deadhouse Gates', which I thought was even better, especially Kalam, Icarium, And the chain of Dogs(thats the rufugee train and army).

If you're looking for a low-calorie dish of light fantasy, this ain't it. If you're looking for a nine-course riot of taste and texture, exotically spiced to make your eyes water, your heart pump faster and your brain do cartwheels inside your cranium, I know a great little Thai place downtown. Or, if you want something analogous to that in your reading, stop at the 'E's and pick up the latest from Steven Erikson.... click link for the rest of the review: http://www.sfsite.com/09a/dg88.htm
Thank you to http://www.sfsite.com/, for these reviews, and what got me started on them.
