Is this a book?

A guy I know said this might be the place to get this answered. At work a couple of weeks ago I was discussing movies with a friend and someone brought up the line from The Incredibles "When everyone is super, then no one will be", and that he had read a book one time that was similiar to that. It was a futuristic setting, and everyone had some sort of ability that made them special, except for 1 guy. And for some reason this 1 guy was important because of it. That's all the information he could remember, and it's really intrigued me. I've asked a few friends and they can only come up with various comic book storylines that are similiar.

Any thoughts?

ooh! ooh! I think I know this one!

[Usually, I am useless on these types of questions....]

It sounds like "A Spell for Chameleon" by Piers Anthony. It's the first in his Xanth series.
