Well,I'm a President of an amateur fantasy-club in Bulgaria. We write books and short stories, discuss new books and make lists.Last year we vote for the best fantasy-author and Feist won[ofcourse].Now we'll vote for the best book, released in our country in the first six months of the year.
I'll be interested in your opinion about that. Here is the list:
1"Guardians of the West"-D Eddings
2"King of the Murgos"-D Eddings
3"Conquest of the Vikings"-R Howard
4"Faith of the Fallen"-T Goodkind
5"DemonLord of Caranda"-D Eddings
6"Sorceress of Darshiva"-D Eddings
7"Dragons of the Autumn Twilight"-Weis&Hickman
8"Coast of Doom"-Peter J. Tailler
9"Winters Hearth"-R Jordan
10"Seeres of Kell"-D Eddings
11"Kull"-R Howard
12"Ghost King"-D Gemmel
13"Last Sword of Power"-D Gemmel
Choose the TOP3

Hello Allanon, I'm sorry to say that I have not read ANY of the books on your list, save Faith of the Fallen (THAT was a mistake)... Your choice of authors seems a bit limited though: Where are the Feist, Brooks, And Salvatore? Praticularly Salvatore; the author has matured a lot in his writing style over the past year. If I had to list the top three new fantasy books I read last year (sadly, those were very few) I would list them as:
Mortalis : R.A. Salvatore
Servant of the Shard: R.A. Salvatore
Not Exactly the Three Musketeers:
Joel Rosenberg (a little out of vein with the others in his series but still a great read).

I Feel it is my duty to vote for Edding even though the W and H is excellent!

Though it is not the best in the series, chosing from this lot (haven't read Gemmel or this Howard chap, so cannot judge their books)I must vote for Winter's Heart by Jordan.
My Top 3 would be, since from this selection I only read Eddings, Jordan and Weis/Hickman.
1. Winter's Heart
2. Dragons of Autumn Twilight
3. One of Eddings, say Guardians of the West(I do not like him anymore but this is for old time sakes, when I was younger and his work seemed OK - especially the first series).

I think everyone should check out C. S. Freidman's Coldfire Trilogy - First book is "Black Sun Rising"...

Awesome series, fresh new (relatively) fantasy

ok im a HUGE Feist fan glad too see he won
any way that being said I have only read the Edding's books on your list
so I would have to vote for them three

To all of the Eddings critics
Theses book were not that bad.
Belgarth and Polgara the last two books were tops.
just my opinion. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hello allanon
i was just wondering if your club likes the wars of light and shadow by janny wurts? hardly anyone in the forum likes it, nonetheless, i recommend it if, by chance, you haven't read it.

kull! kull! kull! kull!
Oki, so I haven't read the book, but if it is as horribly cheezy as the movie, it deserves...something. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
