Hi, was just hoping i could get some helpful suggestions for some good reads. I loved Robbin Hobbs and Raymond Feist. Thanks.

Welcome to the board, NK!!
Out of the fantasy books I have read so far, I would recommend J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy classics: "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" which are excellent, but I wouldn't doubt that you have read them already.
Also, I would definitely recommend "The Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn Trilogy" by Tad Williams, as would several others on this board http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif
I would recommend several other fantasy books to you that look excellent to me, but I haven't read them yet, and my fellow members of this board don't like me to recommend fantasy books that I haven't read yet.
Now this is my own opinion, and you may think different about this, and that's fine, but in my opinion one author that I would recommend whose books you NOT read is David Eddings, simply because I've found his books to be utterly boring and notoriously repetitious. Several others on this board agree with me about this author, but again, this is only my opinion, and you are your own person, and if you turn out to like him that's fine with me. I have absolutely no right to tell you what authors you should and should not like.

Easy, boy, easy!! ** TUGS BACK ON BARDOS' GIANT COLLAR **
In case some of you are wondering, Bardos is my pet balrog! He tends to get easily agitated and angry, especially on topics about Eddings. But don't worry, all I need to do is feed him an orc that resembles Eddings and he'll calm down. Here you go, Bardos! **THROWS ORC IN BALROG PIT** http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin is a must
1. A Game of Thrones
2. A Clash of Kings
3. A Storm of Swords

A Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson
1. Gardens of the Moon
2. Deadhouse Gates
3. Memories of Ice (sept 2001)

Sword of Shadows by J V Jones
1. A Cavern of Black Ice
2. A Fortress of Grey Ice (I think August 2001 in UK, but may change)

A Tale of the Kings Blade by Dave Duncan
1. A Gilded Chain
2. Lord of the Fire Lands
3. A Sky of Swords
each book is a stand alone, though if read together they are part of a bigger story.

Corwn of Stars by Kate Elliott
1. Kings Dragon
2. Prince of Dogs
3. Burning Stone
4. Child of Flame
5. Crown of Stars (not yet released)

there the main ones I've liked so far, I've just started Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. Read about 400 pages in Dragonbone chair and I must say it is very good so far.

Hi NK,

I am fairly new here as well, I would like to say how disappointed I am in the "shallow" views of Zsinj16 and Bardos.

You must read Eddings, he is a very talented author and is voted as the best fantasy author in several european countries. To name a few, England, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria and Luxembourg.

I have been taking advantage of the website to look at the old forum comments as I plan to add a few articles onto my bi-monthly magazine. It is interesting to see that this website is very anti-Eddings and anti-Goodkind. You must not take any individual comments to the heart. You should read every author about and judge for yourself. I tend to agree with Allanon, Belgarion and Polgara that Eddings is one of the very best around. His repetitive storylines are crucial as Eddings purpose of story-writing is to revisit every land as a tribute to readers that love nostaglia. That why it is repetitive - unfortunately people on this forum has mis-interpreted it and assumed he is a bad author.

Allanon, Belgarion & Polgara, are you guys around? I would appreciate a little chat about Eddings as I plan to do a article on his style of writing.

Well my first suggestion would be George R.R: Matin's "song of ice and fire" (vol 1: Game of thrones"

Very complex, dark and gritty, if you liked Hobb (as I do) you will love Martin.

Second on my list would usually be Hobb, since you know her, try G. G. Kay, he often writes stand-alones instead of series, try Tigana IMHO his best work.

As for Eddings i enjoyed him, and don't regret having read them, baut 10 years and ca 500 books of fantasy later i would say there is lot of better stuff out there i would read first, especially as Eddings has exactly one story he must have sold 7 times under different titles by now (I stopped at version three).
