Anyone read anything by this guy? His new book is called The One Kingdom' and I'm considering buying it - can anyone tell me if he's any good? Cheers! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Sean Russell has been on my list of authors to read for a while. I find myself picking up his books and then putting them down. I have seen nothing but good things about his writing.

I work in a book store and read the first chapter or so of "The One Kingdom." It was quite well-written and the beginning, at least, seems to be political intriguey stuff, like in George Martin or Kay's Sarantium series.

I've never read anything from Sean Russell, but, from most account that I've heard, he supposely is a excellent writer..

I've also seen "The One Kingdom". Looks quite good, but, it's like $40 Canadian for the HC, I think I may wait till Paperback, or until someone yells out that this is the next "George Martin" series. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

I've just finished 'The One Kingdom' and really enjoyed it. Reminded of Guy Gavriel kay (as someone pointed out above) and I'd highly recommend it.

Kay-esque, eh? Feel free to provide a few more spoilers.

I've read two of his previous books... World Without End and Sea Without a Shore.

I found the plot interesting, but man it dragged. I recently made a post on my own forum about it actually. For a guy so good at peaking your interest in something, the books ended with the thing that had kept me reading entirely unresolved.

I too was wondering whether the other books improved on this or not. I like his world, his characters and his plots, but dammit if he can peak my interest so much why can't he explain the details out in good time too?

Anyone enlighten me?

I just noticed a review of 'The One Kingdom' at sfsite.com. Have a peep. They also host Sean Russell's official webpage though, so I'm not sure how that affects their reviews.

The One kingdom is very good, and quite different. Its got political stuff in, but not as much as people probably expect though.
I hope the next one comes out soon though, as the story is quite interesting and the ending does leave at a kind of cliff hanger.

I read The River Into Darkness duology and really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more of his books.

I think some of the reviews existed on sfsite.com prior to them handling Russel's Web site.
