Thanks, guys, to all of you who recommended I read Tad William's Otherland series. I got all 4 out of the library and started book 1 on Saturday evening. I cancelled my plans for that night because I was hooked, read all through Sunday and finished on Sunday night. I'm actually going to ration myself to a couple of chapters a night of the next 3 books because I don't want it to end. I'm intrigued by !Xabbu, worried sick for Stephen, scared with Christabel out on her own at night - I could go on and on!
Fabulous - please tell me the rest of the series is just as good! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Glad yall are reading Otherland; don't worry, the rest of the series is just as good as the beginning.

I was thinking of picking up Memory, Thorn and Sorrow.
Which is the better of these two series to read first?

Eventide:
I don't think it matters which you read first. They are 2 completely different stories. Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is in a fantasy setting and Otherland takes place in the not too distant future of Earth (and a little more on the SciFi end of the spectrum). Out of the two series, I think I enjoyed MST a little more than Otherland. Then again I haven't read the final book in Otherland, so my opinion might change http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I just finished re-reading Memory, Sorrow and Thorn again and had forgotten how great they were. Also I read the Otherland series in full over Easter. Either are great, gripping and lots of other gr.. words. Enjoy the characterisation, plot and pace.
It is well worth it and amazingly surprising!

FWIW, I think the only Epic Fantasy series that surpasses Memory, Sorrow and Thorn were written by guys named Tolkien and maybe Donaldson.
Otherland is just as good, IMHO.
Basically, you can't go wrong with either.
