As a new kid on the forum block, I've been fascinated to read the sometimes excellent comment butthere is no doubt it is US based.
So a question to the US members of the forum - does it irritate you that much UK fantasy doesn't make it to your shores (except through expensive import)?
I've seen some UK writers mentioned occasionally and noted with a smile that David Gemmell is listed among your underrated authors. I can tell you in the UK he is not so. He's been writing superb fantasy for well over a decade and it's astounding that he has not had a publishing deal worth the name in the US until very recently.
I'd be interested in your views and in those writers you'd like to see published in the States. And remember, you don't get it because US publishers refuse to buy it.

It frustrates the hell out of me living here in New Jersey, USA.
Some authors I've seen great things about, who haven't been published here:
Paul Kearney-Monarchies of God series, seen this highly touted at SFSite. Though I think I saw somewhere Ace books picked up the series
James Barclay-Again, I'v seeen great things about the Raven series on SFSite. One of my favorite new (heck, overall) writers John Marco recommends Barclay
Orion Masterworks--publishing classics/authors I've read and seen great things about like M. John Harrison, E.R. Eddison's Worm Ouroboros, Fevre Dream by GRR Martin. Steven Erikson another author who gets raves on this board and not readily available here in the US
So yes, I would like to see some of these books here in US.
We discussed something similar a couple of months ago, regarding differing styles of UK and US authors here:American vs. British Authors (http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000527.html)

US residents along the northern border might consider taking it up to a Canadian book store every now and then.

Good point. The books make it to Canada at reasonable prices, why don't they make it a little farther south? I don't mind the cost of the title, which is usually comparable to the US price or even the cost of shipping, it's the delay in getting the book...

Maybe we could import from Canada via mail? Gotta be cheaper than going through England or Australia. I checked out getting Sara Douglas from Australia and a paperback was more expensive than a hardback with all the mailing costs!!!!

I don't live in the US, but i order my books there on the internet so i can relate to the problem of american readers.
Steven Erikson, Paul Kearney, Iain M. Banks.. not to mention that lately books in The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire were released first in the UK...
Luckily my father goes on business trips to the UK every once in a while, i give him a list of books and he gets them for me.

I live in the UK, and order mosts my books from WHSmith and Amazon.co.uk. And US books, as well as versions are available on those sites, and most of the time the waiting time is about 1-2weeks though many are 24hrs.
But when I checked to see Amazon.com site, it hard to find UK books and versions on the site. And the few they do have have a waiting time of 1 month. So I don't know why the US book stores and websites don't stock UK books, when here in UK its quite easy to buy a US book, (by the way US version and books are miles cheaper then the UK ones) and we don't have to pay any extra.
When I use the following words I mean:
Books = only available in That country
Version = Where there is a UK publisher and a US publisher of the same book,, but normally different covers.
