Collaborative stories are ones where the group writes it as a whole. If you just want to write your own story, you could post it in the Stories section.

Maybe to get things started, you should tell us what you like writing.

Ok. What if an exploring starship crash lands on a distant inhabitable world? Rescue will happen eventually, but it could be a few years. Worse, much of their surviving high-tech gear isn't working. Only the starmen discover there's a lost human colony on the world. The colony's regressed to a primitive state, roughly the middle ages (with variations and differences) - and somehow some of them can do actual magic!

that is a good idea.now i think we need to answer some questions like: what were they doing? do they have weapons?stuff like that.

Exactly.

Why did this starship come here?
Will someone come looking for them and if so, when?
Why did it crash?
Who survived?
What else survived?
Did the ship come down in one peice? Did the crew jump into lifepods and get scattered all over or come down in a group?

Are they really using magic on this world or is it something else?
Who can use it?
How do they use it?
Why can't anyone else use it?
How do people think about magic?
Are there any limits to the magic?
Did the magic cause the ship to crash and for some of the tech devices to not work? If it did, why?

How is this world set up?
Who runs this world?
Why is development so primitive? Why isn't it more advanced?
How will the locals greet the newcomers?

I'm thinking that this world was an alien colony world a long time ago. Only something happened, the alien colonists either died out or left, leaving their cities to crumble into ruins.

But some of their ancient tech survived. It's this ancient tech that creates the magic.

The human colonists who came to this world had also crashed. Some maybe made it to life pods (maybe their ship was set up like that?) but got separated from the group. None of the colonists high-tech gear worked so they had to make do with what they had.

It's hard to make an engine when you don't have the tools or a working computer to access the files.

Someone had to lead, others follow. Survival was the driving need. Over time, it developed into a feudal society. The old history was forgotten.

But at some point, someone found they could do magic. Their mind was unconciously connecting with some of the alien tech. It made something happen. Others discovered they could do 'magic' too. But only a handful.

Magic made a lot of people afraid. If the alien device they were unconciously commanding misinterpeted the witch or wizard's commands, it could get very messy. Many probably shunned or drove out their witches and wizards, making them live away from them.

But someone who could do magic could be useful. Witches and wizards looked for apprentices who had the gift.

Now after all these generations, with Earth a forgotten memory, war threatens between two neighboring kingdoms. And then one night, a falling star - except it was really a falling starship, struck by the same weapon that disabled the colonists' ship 3-4 centuries ago.

maybe the witches and wizards could find a way to disable the weapon. then maybe they could use magic to destroy the weapon.

The weapon that knocks down the ships is also the source of the magic. It's a command. But a good idea, one someone's sure to think of.
