Recently I read the first two books of the "Stones of Power"-"Ghost King" and "Last Sword of Power".I think that they are great, with original plot and interesting characters.Gemmel is really Master of the Fantasy and I think that he is better than many popular authors like Jordan,Goodkind...
What's your opinion?

Well, Allanon, I haven't read Gemmel yet, but he is certainly on my "TO READ LIST"! His books look excellent! And to answer your question about Terry Goodkind, I don't think there are very many people on this board that like him. I've heard some fantasy readers elsewhere even call his books "sleazy", if you know what I mean. http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

I'm inclined to agree. I don't know about him being 'The master of Fantasy' but he's definitely up there. Try and find some of the Drenai books if you can particuarly Legend and Waylander, two of his earlier and best ones IMHO.

I've read all of Gemmel's stuff and I enjoy the theme of a few good men standing against the hordes of evil, which appears in almost all of his work. It reminds me of Louis Lamour and the wild west. A very basic story populated by sturdy characters of integrity. My only beef is that he killed off Druss the Axe (?) after only a few books. One of my favorite "kickass" fantasy characters.

Caperjoe-

Next time give a little warning before you reveal events in a book/series http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif. A good example of warning before events is in the Martin thread. Something like:

SPOILER****
*
*
*
I hated having Mr. X killed off in the third book.
*
*
*end of SPOILER***

I think I'm going to give this Gemmel fella a try http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Cannon, you don't know him as a Master of Fantasy, because he is UK,not US author.Today only American guys are popular.I have nothing against them,but...
And thanks,I'll try to find Drenai books, but
"Stones of Power" are super,too.

Sorry to be pedantic but I said, he wasn't 'the' master of fantasy. I'd say he was 'a' master of fantasy certainly. (: He seems pretty popular here in Australia, not as big as Jordan or someone, but he's one of the fantasy authors you always see in in shops.

-Spoiler-
Gemmell actually killed Druss in his very first book. The others about him were actually prequels written afterwards.

Well, there is no arguing.I also say that he is "a" Master, not "the" Master.IMHO,"the" Master is Raymond Feist.

I've been reading David Gemmell since the mid 1980's and whilst he doesn't write the most intricate and deep stories what he does manage to achieve are no-nonsense books, full of strong characters with powerful plots. For me it is David Gemmells writing style that I most enjoy, it is exceptionally clear and always moves along drawing you deeply in.

If you want a great read, that you won't be able to put down that hits your emotions rather than the depths of your brain, Gemmell's your man!
