Nobody has posted this yet, but I thought it was fairly interesting:

I wonder if Dumbledore ever hit on Harry Potter.

That's kind of wierd to announce it after the series is over. If it is relevent to our understanding of the complex character of Dumbledore, shouldn't it have been put in the books?

It's not relevant to the books, per se. The only reason Jo brought this to the world's attention was due to a scene in the next movie, where Dumbledore supposedly expresses interest in a woman. She had to set the record straight. As mentioned in the article.

Just curious: Before it was announced he was gay, did you ever wonder if he had hit on Ginny or Hermione? If not, why do you now wonder if he had hit on Harry?

Or were you just trying to be cute? If that's the case, I take some issue with it, because it seems like a fairly prejudicial and uninformed way to be coy.

No, I didn't think he hit on anyone before the annoucement. But after the annoucement, you have to wonder whether Rowling is trying to be cute by telling us he is gay or she is not trying to be cute at all and actually hints he is gay in her books. Since most of his scene involves being alone with Harry Potter, you have to wonder whether there really is a hidden sexual undertone.

Why would there be? Logically?

Because a lot of people make the leap from "gay" to "pedophile", and assume that being gay means you are attracted to absolutely everyone of the same sex. For whatever reasons.

As for the news, it's an interesting tidbit. I don't think I'm perhaps into the series enough to have MY MIND TOTALLY BLOWN, but interesting nonetheless.

Got a sense of deja vu from this story - then realised that Ray Feist had told some of us that his old wizard-mentor character in the Riftwar series - Kulgan - was gay and in love with... Martin, I think it was.

When I read Rowling's announcement I straight away wondered if she'd ever spoken/heard of the Feist comment as they were nearly identical...

Aye, my non-spoken point exactly. It's a sad world, in many ways.
