i only started reading fantasy and fantasy-ish type stuff a few years ago. My friends keep recomending stuff, and usually it's pretty good, so i'm have a nice, fun, rewarding experience. Yay.

but i sure am noticing lots of sets of twins. it seems any epic fantasy series isn't complete without a set (or sets) of twins.

why twins, why not just siblings? for balance? dichotomy? to kill one off and see how the other responds? Are twins becoming a fantasy "thing", or am i just reading twinny stuff?

What are you reading? Off the top of my head I can't think of any prominent twins in fantasy except for maybe those Dragonlance guys, were they twins or just brothers?

I am racking my brains and can't think of one work of fantasy I've read that had a set of twins in it. What books are you reading? I like twins - always wanted to be one, actually - and think I would enjoy that in fantasy. So many possibilities!

Probably for dramatic effect, of highlighting the similarities between two people who shared the same womb. Or to contrast their diverging path, considering how they literately started at the same point in life. Off the top of my head, there is Alanna and Thom of Tamroa Pierce's Song of the Lioness, and Jamie and Cersei in Song of Ice and Fire (any correlation between songs and twins? :) ). I can't think of any more, though I swear I'm missing some. Anyone know any triplets, or greater multiple births in epic fantasy for that matter?

Harry Potter has the Weasley twins. Wassner's Gemquest has twins, I think. Erikson's got some twins, although they're Ascendants or Gods so I don't know if it counts.

Feist's Prince of the Blood and the wicked sisters in Locke Lamora. I could only come up with those two right now and the ones already mentioned.

Wassner's Gemquest does have twins Clockwirk, I think it was the title of the first book that gave it away, "The Twins" ***hee hee hee*** I just could not resist that.

As far as other books with twins, I have not read that many with twins in them, and rarely as in Gary's case are they the main characters. I suppose you are right though about the special relationship that exists between twins, their uniqueness, I would say.

Jamie and Cersei Lannister of George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.

Aren't the 'wicked sisters' Jeans hatchet's?

Another set of twins is Barrick and Briony Eddon in Williams' Shadow books.

I assume he means the shark fighting sisters.
