The asbestos man?

I read a short story about the future when I was in the 8th grade. It fortold how people would be replaced by machines, and have no purpose or interest in life. It seems like the title had something to do with asbestos. Any one remember anything like that?

Hi, Natika,
"The Asbestos Man" was a short story I read in high school years ago.
I don't recall the author, and it was satire as well as science fiction, but would love to know if anyone else has encountered it.

Thanks Nicky_mor for the reply. At least now I know it was a real story, wish I could find out who wrote it.

Thanks Catire for the information and the link. That was what I was looking for. I could only remember a little bit of it. Asbestos clothing would not be a good idea!

Pleased to see that we seem to have a result here. I've moved the thread to our new 'Help (SF)' section.
