I'm going on holiday to Canada next week and I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any Canadian fantasy not available over here? I'm taking a lot of books with me but I'm always on the lookout for new authors. Any help appreciated! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dave Duncan. He's a great author.
I normally order books from the net, so I can get hold of them. But if you don't then Dave Duncan's A Tale of the Kings Bladetrilogy is one I highly recommend. His other books are supposed to be god, but they are hard even for me to get hold of.

You might want to check and see if the rest of Sara Douglas novels are there. Only the first one has been published in the US (and only in hardback!) even though all six are available in other countries. Her second is not due to be published in the US till the fall. I checked her website

http://www.saradouglas.com

to find her other novels, but they were to expensive to import at this time. She may already be available in Ireland though.

Dave Duncan is also pretty good. Although his books (A Tale of King's Blades) have a recurring theme, they can be read as stand alone novels.

Well, I don't know where you are from and what you have there, but one of the Canadian authors I reecently found interesting for myself is Margaret Atwood. You might want to try it if you don't have anything against feminist themes in fantasy.

Michelle West is a Canadian author, she wrote a series called Hunter's (Something), and also a new series set in the same world.

I read the first two book, while, I enjoyed them, I find her writing style very hard to follow..

Is Dave Duncan's Great Game series any good? I saw them in a 2nd hand bookshop the other day and was wondering if I should bother with them.

The SF Site has just done this! Here's their address for a page of SF writing Canadians:
http://www.sfsite.com/lists/canadian.htm

They also recommend Made in Canada: The Homepage for Canadian Science Fiction at
http://www.geocities.com/canadian_sf/

Personally I didn't know Guy Gavriel Kay was Canadian, nor Sean Russell (For some reason I thought Sean was Australian...)

Heh, what does it matter anyway?
Canadians are just americans that live more to the north and don't have nuclear power.
