is The Island movie based from a book?

I've been doing some google searches and I can't tell if the movie, The Island is based from a book.

Some people have said it's similar to the movie called The Clonus Horror... but other than that I cannot find anything.

I thought I once saw someone say it's from a book called Clonus, but I have not been able to turn up any results on a book with that title.

Thanks a lot if you know anything.

That synopsis does sound awfully familiar, but I can't put a title to it.

There does seem to be a dispute about who wrote it.

No, The Island was not based on a published novel or story. Caspian Tredwell-Owen, a British screenwriter, created the story and co-wrote the script. If a movie is based on a written work, which the film people optioned, purchased the film rights for and adapted, then the book or story's author is always credited in the movie. So if you don't find that credit, then you know it was an original screenplay. Whether Tredwell-Owen borrowed ideas from various sf novels, I couldn't tell you.

It wouldn't be the first time filmmakers ended up sued.
E.T. had several plagiarism claims brought against it.
