I've never read a book where the bad guy or evil wins. If there is a book out there where the evil wins please do tell me.
Anyway, if an Author was to write a book, Evil vs Good, where the Evil wins would you likely buy it?
i have read books where the Good guys pay a heavy price for victory but why has there never been a book where the evil wins? - again I can answer my own question, the author thinks the books will not sell so does the publishers, it may be bad for society, well little kids if they ever come to read it.
But I just want to hear your thoughts on this.

I don't really like the bad guys to win, it happens to often in real life, and fantasy is a form of escapism.
If you want to read stories where the bad guys win, open a newspaper.

Good shout Fitz. The word 'bullseye' tends to spring to mind.
And azaz is right - publishers are unlikely to buy such a book since it isn't what readers want...

I known that Eddings`s books are not on the top of most peoples best books list not even mine, but the idea he had about the bad guys wanting to have a perfect world which the results would be absolute nothing and the good guys fighting this so anarchy would rule the world was a really good twist I found on the old good vs bad thing. This is still one of the best ideas to write a fantasy book about I have read.If only the writing was as good.

Actually there are a couple of books in which the good guys are so saccharine-sweet that you just WISH the baddies would whupp their @$$. Eddings' Sparhawk comes to mind... only the evil ones were even more poorly realized in that series...
Extremely cool bad guy: Auda ibn Jad from The Rose of the Prophet - he could've taught the Eddings baddies a thing or two...

A book were the bad ones win, sort of, is Mary Gentle's "Grunts". But then it's a parody, so i'm not really sure if it counts.
