Critique: Just a story idea.

Even though I should, I've not written any of this down yet. It's been in my head for the past day or two, so I figured I'd get some opinions.

The gist of it would be that somewhere, similar to Earth ( it may even turn out to be Earth), well into the future everything is prospering, and there are gigantic cities of a gleaming appearances of what would seem to be a cross of marble and steel, and vehicles zooming through the air, and towering buildings that reach the clouds. All well and good, but this is a story, it has to have some sort of conflict.

Well, just in luck. There happens to be political turmoil- both between countries, and in some of the countries themselves. It boils down to the technologically superior country (whichever that might be) launching a bomb, or a nuclear-esque device, and EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) in it's rival country.

So, with most of its cityscape obliterated, and the majority of technology rendered useless by constant electronic interference from the other country, the few people that survive the blast are forced to cope with this new landscape that consists only of ruins of their former cities.

To avenge themselves (once the area has been repopulated) the people begin to learn older ways of fighting. But, most importantly, they take notice of the beasts that live in the wilderness, the beasts they used to constantly kill and fend off from their super-urban homes. (Whether or not these beasts will be evolutionary descendants of previous animals or mutated from the nuclear weapons I've not decided)
So, they begin taming them, and breeding and plan to use them for warfare, as a last resort.

That's as far as I've gotten. Opinions and critques are more than welcome. Don't sugar-coat, either. =p

By the way, I'm new. So, hello everyone. =]

It sounds like both are pretty even matched. If anything, the more technically advanced might not see the other as a threat - until the bombs come.

Or are they advanced in different ways? Did one of them come up with some new tech that let's them bomb the other in some way that the rivals couldn't stop? What might this new tech do to its creators?

As an idea, it's not bad. But ideas are cheap. It's what you do with it that's important. So write already.
