Smaug's Experiment

Pages : [1] 2 3 4 5

Smaug

Can I kindly ask every possible member to oblige to take part in my experiment? I have gone through meticulous/assidious detail of grouping a trio of authors in different leagues in cunning/deliberate groupings. I want to determine who you would place as your favourite author of the particular three in that league and then you need to select the next best author. I will then know who is the least preferred one.

Here are my 5 leagues.

Blue League: Williams, Jordan & Hobb

Yellow League: Donaldson/O S Card & Moorcock

Green League: Eddings, Brooks & Gemmell

Red League: Feist, Weiss/Hickman & Zelazny

Black League: Tolkien, GRRM & Stephen King

To illustrate, here is an example of how you should reply. Here is my opinion.

BL: 1) Williams 2) Hobb

YL: 1) Donaldson 2)Moorcock

GL: 1) Eddings 2) Brooks

RL: 1) Zelazny 2) Feist

BkL: 1) Tolkien 2) King

All this is for the purpose of my essay on the popularities of authors under 5 special segmentations (I cannot reveal why I have group them especially this way as it would defeat the purpose of the experiment)

THANKS in ADVANCE for those that are willing to take up 5-10 minutes of their time. It is for a GOOD CAUSE!!!

Sounds a great experiment! I shall oblige and help you out on a good cause.

The black league seems to contain the very best whereas the Blue league contains the recent ones? Ah..well I better not pester you on those colourful leagues!

Here is my answers:

BLUE: 1) Hobb 2) Williams

Yellow: Only have read Donaldson!!

Green: 1) EDDINGS!!! 2) Brooks

Red: Only read Zelazny & Feist. Prefer Feist over Zelazny

Black: 1) Tolkien (No question) 2) GRRM

I think I have spotted a significant error to you expereiment? You are assuming that we have read all these authors???

I think it back to the drawing table for you Smaug!!

This is interesting...and difficult.

Here goes:

Blue: 1) Williams 2) Jordan
Yellow: 1) Card 2) Donaldson
Green: I have only read Brooks and wasn't that excited about what I read. No votes
Red: 1) Weis/Hickman 2) Feist (haven't read Zelazny yet, but on my TO-READ pile)
Black: 1)King (#1 overall) 2) Martin

Can you at least tell us what this means when we finish?!? http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif

I hated dropping Hobb from the Blue league, but it was so close.... http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/frown.gif

I'm kind of curious to see where this is leadin... here's my 2 cents worth:

Blue : 1. Williams 2. Jordan
yeeearrrrggg...how can I omit Hobb? arggg!

Yellow : 1. Donaldson 2. Moorcock
(haven't read any Card)

Green : 1. Gemmell 2. Eddings
I still question my decision to buy the Brooks Shanara books...uggg horrible.

Red : 1. Feist 2. Weiss/Hickman
Toss up between Feist and W/H... but who can argue against Jimmy the Hand or Macros the Black?

Black : 1. King 2. Tolkien
I haven't read any Martin yet (have 2 sitting in my to-read-pile). Tolkien was the first fantasy I had read...but I think King's The Stand and Dark Tower tipped the scales in King's favor.

Blue = Hobb, Williams
Yellow = Donaldson, Moorcock
Green = Gemmel, Brooks
Red = Fiest, Weiss/Hickman
*Black = Tolkien, King

* your black section gave me a problem, Stephen King is my fave author, but my favorite fantasy author is Tolkien, so adjust if you need to. Sorry if it causes problems.
