hi wasnt sure if i should post my query here or under the horror section. thats because douglas preston and lincoln child are known to be thriller writers, but within those thrillers they write fantastical stories of scientific discoveries that may not be too far from the truth. So with that in mind i'd like any suggestions of thriller type novels that would tickle my fancy? i'm new to the genre but ive fallen in love i think... with the writing style. If there are any other writers out there like preston and child, please point me towards a good science fic/fact horror thriller.^^

Well the obvious example there would be the Michael Crichton books, vampy: from The Andromeda Strain (virus escapes!) to Jurassic Park (dinosaurs escape!) to his climate change book State of Fear to his microbot book Prey to his genetic book, NeXt. He's often seen as the main (ie bestselling) writer of such books.

You may want to try Richard Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs books, starting with Altered Carbon. They're PI/thriller books set in a sci-fi world.

9tail Fox by Jon Courtenay Grimwood was one book I meant to read this year but didn't get round to. It might be worth your time..

Both of those I like; but I wouldn't say they were in that scientific discovery vein.

Any more thoughts?

The only other book that I could think of with a scientific discovery might be Passage by Connie Willis. It's not really a typical thriller, though (none of her books are typical anything, though). It is a good read. Here's a review (http://archive.salon.com/books/review/2001/05/21/willis/).
