I thought We could vote on which Author website is the best.
I will difinitely go for Cecilia Dart-Thornton which is very informative, and the images and all is great to look at. http://www.dartthornton.com/

About the only author website I visit is www.robinhobbonline.com (http://www.robinhobbonline.com) I don't care about graphics or that sort of thing--I just love message forums. Her message forums are great b/c she actually posts and replies. I love that sort of interaction.
I think GRRM has a forum he replies to as well, but I know nothing about it since I am not a fan.

Here are some good ones:
Probably the best-Tad Williams' http://www.ShadowMarch.com though it centers around the online serial, Tad also interacts with the members of the UBB, he has posted a preview of his forthcoming War of the Flower.
John Marco www.tyrantsandkings.com (http://www.tyrantsandkings.com) - updated at least once a month, he has been running a monthly contest giving away signed copies of his books
Orson Scott Card www.hatrack.com (http://www.hatrack.com) updated frequently and also a bulletin board
David Farland www.runelords.com (http://www.runelords.com) - though that's more for the form
Guy Gavriel Kay's www.brightweavings.com (http://www.brightweavings.com) is pretty informative and nicely laid out
Stephen King www.stephenking.com (http://www.stephenking.com) - updated fairly regularly, plus he gave away the proluge to Dark Tower book 5!

Here's a great author and a website: WWW.PhilipKDick.com (http://WWW.PhilipKDick.com) I just stumbled onto to it. If you want a hillarious and revealing interview on the world of a science-fiction author during the 70's go to media room and click on the Hour 25 interview. The interview is uproarious and completely honest about the publishing industry.

Janny Wurts site at www.paravia.com (http://www.paravia.com) is pretty ugly, but has a great discussion board on which Janny posts.

For those having trouble with the last link, it's actually www.jamesbarclay.com. (http://www.jamesbarclay.com.)
It is a good site but there could be more regular news.
