It's like deja vu (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185) all over (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1973) again (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1905). :D

Read Baudolino by Umberto Eco, it isn't fantasy, but it depicts the fourth crusade sacking of Constantinople excelently.

Eventine wins a Hob Nob by pointing out the resurfacing of an old topic. Threads are now merged, to hopefully stop people having to say something they've already said again.

Also:

a) Try using a 'Search';
b) Look at the Recommendation Thread, (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8580) which has more links than you can poke at with a stick.

I am looking for some fantasy with a big military factor. That means lots of big battles, soldiers and so forth.

The books I've read that probably come closest to what I'm looking for is Erikson's Malazan Book of The Fallen and Glen Cook's The Black Company.

I would love to hear your thoughts on some great military fantasy litterature (I'm thinking battles with cavalry, infantry, swords, bows and magic flying here, there and everywhere ;))

Thanks!

David Gemmell's Drenai Books (esp. Legend) might be interesting to you

Also, John Marco 'Tyrants and Kings' has a heavy militaristic component.

If you liked 'Black Company' then James Barclay's 'Raven Chronicles' might also be of interest.

Michael Stackpoles 'Dragoncrown War Cycle' is pretty much constant warfare, though i didn't like it too much

What Boiler said. Also try Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Failing that, check out this older thread:

Paul Kearney's Monarchies of God series is just the series you are looking for ;)

H. Turtledove Darkness series is WW 2 with dragons and magic instead of tanks and warplanes.

C. Bunch King series (Seer, Demon, Warrior) is a pseudo-Napoleonic saga with magic, battles and intrigue (and with tons of explicit sex, but it's fun in a campy way)

I am busy reading Sarah Ash's Tears of Artemon. It has a very Militaristic theme, with the Emperor Eugene invading other countries. So far I like it.

Thanks for the replies guys. :) Although I've read most of what's suggested here there are still some interesting titles.

I remember considering The Monarchies of God a while ago, but can't for the life of me remember why I decided to not read them.

But, and this may seem silly, do they use guns in the Kearney books?

I am kind of a fantasy elitist, don't want anything modern in my fantasy books ;). Unless I'm reading urban fantasy of course.

Keep the suggestions coming guys, I'm soaking in ideas here.
