Why does L.E. Modesitt jr. have to jump all over the time line in the Recluse Saga?

I read the first book in the series and loved it. Then I read the next book, and it is a few hundred year in the passed. And so on... It is cool, but a pain. Any thoughts?

PS: What is the true Chronological order?

I have been thinking of reading this series as well, but because of the size and because it's not in order has kinda kept me back. There was a site which listed it in time, so if I can find it again I'll post it.

Tryston, how good was the first book? what's it about without spoiler's?

Book 4 continues where book 1 left off, and is great... I haven't read the others, but keep meaning too... as to why it leaps? Well, as a writer, I imagine it gives you freedom to develop the world more and investigate one off ideas in the same or similar setting without being forced to do trilogies etc... think of it not as a series but a set of one off novels, each has its own selfcontained storyline, and yet feeds you a little more of Recluse. I thoroughly enjoyed the blend of Recluse's vaguely Rennaisance world with the traditional fantasy elements - I just got fed up with his habit of typing in the sounds... the Crrrrrrrreak... Grrrrroooooannnn... kind of thing with 10 exclamation marks ,)

Well azaz, the first book to come out is way later time wise than the next few books. It is about a very powerful guy thrown to the wolfs. The earlist book time wise is "Fall of Angels". It explains a great deal about what is really going on in the back ground..

I really couldn't say which way is best about reading the "Sets of novels". There are pro/cons to either reading them in Cronological order, or in published order..

I also have always wanted to read the Recluse series, but, I attempted the first book, and I just couldnt get past the first 100 or so page, just found it boring..

Any hope for me? Say something to inspire me to try this series.. =)

Ditto for me, Keyoke. It seems such a waste though, to write all those books without something exciting happening somewhere. I must be missing something.

Does it get better???

I've only read 'The Magic of Recluse' so far but I did enjoy it. Only first person perspective book I've read that I enjoyed. I'll own that it did start out slow, though.
