A few months ago FitzFlagg posted regarding Tad William's Shadowmarch project. Tad is releasing a story in 'episodes' on the internet. At the time of the original post very little was happening with the project, with just the prologue, and 2 episode's available for download, and these were free.

I did keep visiting the site, waiting for things to start happening, and for other episodes to become available, although I expected a subscription charge for further updates. As very often happens, as soon as I stopped checking, things started moving.

He now has seven episodes available, five of which are free, and to download more you will need to pay a one-off subscription fee of $14.99 (£10.26 UK).

The subscription is for Season One of Shadowmarch, which would suggest more is to come after the current 'run'.

I have only read the first 2 episodes so far... but they have whetted my appitite for more...

the address for the site is

www.shadowmarch.com/main.asp (http://www.shadowmarch.com/main.asp)

Just wanted to thank you for reminding me about this one... excellent site. I just paid my money - saving it has html to burn a disk for myself with all the graphics etc of the site... very cool stuff... and its TAD!

Kane... you are welcome http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am actually making a PDF file for my own use... I cannot read this amount of text on the screen, so I am printing it out from the PDF, cracking a can of Fosters Lager... and reading the old fashioned way http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I have to confess I'm really unsure about this. The content is fantastic. I really like what the free previews show and would /love/ to buy the novel(s). The problem I have with this is that there's no way to determine how much this is going to cost me to read the entire story (also true of Jordan's saga). I don't have a problem with shelling out the dollars for a book. But this subscription gives you one year and then it cuts off. I'd rather pay more upfront and be guaranteed the right to finish the story. I dunno. I'm still doing the internal debate thing. I know it won't ever be released as a book. There's also no guarantee he will actually finish the story. If pirated versions become available it will just stop. I really like TW's work, and am really glad he's making a return to fantasy. Just wish there was a little more certainty on this issue.
Ok, sorry for the rant http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

Giarc: In an interview somewhere Tad did mention he might publish it as a standard book, but not for a loooong time.

Hmm...that sounds promising! I thought I read somewhere on the shadowmarch site that he wouldn't at all. Why can't he be just another fantasy hack? Then the decision would be so simple!!! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Thanks for the info http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

The first season ends August 14th 2002.
Each month there are two installments. So in this first season there will be twenty-four episodes.

Sorry Eventine but surely everyone knows the Aussies know squaddily about beer. BQ's yes. Sport yes. Beer no.

Never have i found a schooner lurking anywhere else than in aus.

Denniz I'm disappointed with you... What would the others say if they could see you now!! http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'll wait for the book if it ever comes out i think.
