Some authors really make some bad ones, like nynaeve al'meara or flewdr flam. List them all!

Richard. I still can't believe a fantasy author would name his character Richard of all things! As in the Terry Goodkind Richard. I actually loved the Richard in Neverwhere, but since that was a different setting I guess different name rules apply.
Also, I generally hate every name for every female in the Robert Jordan books.

Sam be glad that you don't know "Grunts" by Mary Gentle then, it has the evil "nameless necromances" and his good twin the "named one" http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

Hey Sam, at least there's a reason for 'The Unknown'
Doesn't translate well into French, though...

Jagang is a pretty stupid name, sounds like somebody's coughing.
I generally get annoyed when characters have a bunch of apostrophes J'on`ov F'yr'dra`gn

The names in Robin Hobb!
Nothing personal to this author, but hear this:
Burrich-sonds to me: absolute peasant!
Modesty-no comment!
etc and etc.
Or...Durnik-what a name,what a name,what a name!!!

Well, some of you must know I'm not the WOT's foremost advocate but I think the names in there are fine. But if Nynaeve tugs that braid just one more time...!!! As for Fflewddur Fflam, it is a name based in the Welsh language which is entirely sensible given that the roots of the tale are based in Welsh legend/mythology. I agree too many apostrophes and accents can be bloody hard to get your brain around, but it also adds to a sense of being 'foreign' IMO.
