...or something like this.

I'm trying to remember the name of a short SF story I read a while back. It involved overpopulation and people assigned to live a day a week, spending the reminder in stasis or something. The hero falls in love with a girl from another day and...

Well I don't want to spoil the ending if anyone wants to read it, but if this rings a bell please share the title and author's name.

Got to agree with Libo.

There are three in the series: here's the first:

Dayworld (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/f/philip-jose-farmer/dayworld.htm)

Mark / Hobbit

Sounds like Philip Jose Farmer's Dayworld

Excellent catch! Kudos Libo :D

I managed to find the short story after a quick search. It is called "The Sliced-Crosswise Only-On-Tuesday World" and was indeed the first seed of what would evolve to be Farmer's Dayworld (which now I have to procure and devour). What's even better is that the original short story is online at: http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/classics/classics_archive/farmer/farmer1.html

Farmer did a lot of that kind of thing; try finding the World of Tiers series after you finish Dayworld.
