Is their a specific order this series should be read in? Does it matter? Is the series any good? Opinions? THanks. =)

Keyoke:

What I've read of the series I really enjoyed. Check out www.dreamcafe.com (http://www.dreamcafe.com) Steven Brust's official page. On the site, he indicates both the official publication order and (can't remember if he linked to another site on this one) the chronological order.

ACE books published an omnibus a couple years ago of the first 3 Jhereg, Yendi and Teckla as The Book of Jhereg.

On the surface they can be seen as Swords and Sorcery but there is a lot of thoughtful and fun dialogue between the main character, Vlad Taltos and his Jhereg (small dragon-like familiar).

I just saw on amazon.com information for what looks to be another omibus of the Vlad Taltos books, set to publish March 2002 by ACE books, title The Book of Taltos.

If I find out more about it, I will post here.

FitzFlagg, I been wanting to buy this, for I haven't read a book with assassins playing large roles since I read 'Deadhouse Gates'. I gonna order 'Book of Jhereg' soon, probably after I've finished reading Fool's Errand when it comes out.

I've thought I'll get Hawkwood's Voyage by PaulKearney, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I've managed to find a Hardcover one for £6, which I should receive in the next few days.

Brust is great.

Paul Kearney will soon see publication of Hawkwood's Voyage by ACE books in USA, so perhaps you'll have a better time finding his books.

I scored and found almost every Jhereg book by Brust at this local used bookstore. Now, I've look in the order on that site, but, is it necessary to read it in any order? A few of the books look much more interesting than others.. =)

Paul Kearney.. Great author btw, I've read Hawkwood's voyage, and loved it. His writing style is very smooth..

Kearney published in the US?
I hope that's only the first of a new wave of british authors published there...

Just when I thought I had read pretty much everything fantasy could offer, you guys keep mentioning names I haven't read. This thread mentions Steven Brust. Another thread mentions Kate Elliot - have not read her either. Matthew Stover is another name. Kearney? I need to get to the book store!

I have to thank you all for these recommendations. My to-read pile, which was pathetically small, will soon rise to great heights again!

Yes, Read Stover! Was I wrong with Perdido Street Station?

Rhaegar, I know you like GRRM, you should give John Marco a try, very similar in the grim and grittiness and if you like Tyrion there is a character similar to him with the gray line of good/evil.

FC, all we need in US now is Erikson and Barclay.

FitzFlagg, I'll be forever grateful for your Perdido Street Station recommendation. What a book... John Marco, you say? Yes, I've heard him mentioned often around here. Yet another name added to my to-read pile!

Here in Canada, Steven Erikson is readily available and I bought GARDENS OF THE MOON. Well above average, I would say, but it didn't knock my socks of either. I'll read the next in the series though.
