I have just finished reading this & I think Robin Hobb outdid herself.
I have slept for only 4 hours in the past 2 nights just to finish it.
What were your opinions of the 1st book of her new series ?

I liked FE more than I liked the Liveship series but not as much as the Farseer books.

The first 200 pages are slow, so if you haven't read Robin Hobb before FE is not the place to start, though its ok if you like the characters and know their histories. Once Fitz gets to Buckkeep and starts looking for Dutiful, the action gets going and it's a good book. Of the new characters I liked Laurel and Dutiful but found Jinna a bit irritating. Laudwine looks like he could become an interesting villain.

How many bones did Fitz broke this time?...

Loved the book. Did start a bit slow, but intentionally so I think. To get a good feel of the time period that went by and how Fitz and co lived all those years. Waiting eagerly for book II...

We still have a week or two left until it's out in the UK, I think Australia is the only place that has it right now for some odd reason. I'm looking forward to it though, as I loved Farseer, but was severely disappointed with Liveship. I have a theory about that though if anyone is interested...

How fortunate I live here then.

I agree it started slow but not unnecceserily so.
Fitz surprisingly came through the book with no "physical" damage.
I was glad to see that Fitz is finally not trying to blame his problems on everyone else.....But his lack of trust for anyone does get on my nerves.
I agree we have not seen the end of Laudwine, I am guessing his hatred for Fitz knows no bounds.
I think it is a great continuation of an ongoing story.

Louis,I'm interested. Tell us your theory about Liveships.

To tell the truth, my theory is more about Robin Hobb in general than just Fools Errand or Liveships. It does relate though. You see, I read Farseer ages ago and duly loved it. I later heard about the Liveship Traders series through some online friends and ended up reading it too. I disliked it quite a bit but I perservered anyway for the simple fact that I had liked Farseer so much.
I also observed from the same online friends that most of the people who were sort of lukewarm about Farseer or didn't like the ending or had some problem with it, had at least liked it enough to try Liveship. These people who didn't like Farseer all that much ended up adoring Liveship. Now that Fool's Errand is being released Hobb has a quite large fan base who will buy it for sure. She has both the people who will buy it, as I will, for the sake of loving Farseer so much and thinking that hopefully Fool's Errand will go back to that standard, and the people who loved Liveship and will buy it because they hope Fool's Errand will continue with all the things they enjoyed in that series.
Now, either this is a really smart marketing move on someone's part or I'm just too cynical and she simply has slightly differing styles for the two large storylines in this world, which I presume will eventually mix.
