It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... ?

Call me Ishmael ... ?

Seriously, along with all the other good things at sffworld there are writing forums where you might get more help.

That said, a tip: Sometimes among the last things a writer of a story writes is the opening to the story. By then you have the luxury of knowing what your story has developed into.

I found this approach worked well with essays, too.

chose a scene and decide what characters are going to be introduced in that scene. Decide what's going to happen to them or what they're going to do that will start the story rolling. That simple.

Listen, I don't think it's wise to ask others for help. If you use another person's idea, well then it isn't your writing. Come up with something, give the idea time to develop, I know it's not easy waiting for a good idea, it's happened to all of us. Keep on practicing with your writing, and then you'll be a great writer. Time is all you need, not help.

You may as well go ahead and ask someone to write a book for you with a vague question like that. Only very successful authors can get away with that.

Read books, especially those in the genre you wish to write, along with books on writing style.

Then, just write and see what comes out. Don't expect immediate success; you'll get better with experience.

We cannot help you with the intro because you have to lead with your heart.

Since we don't know your heart, any suggestions we may make won't resonate with you.

What is the strongest feeling you're having? Now picture somebody else with it. Now picture yourself walking down the street and meeting this person. What do they say?

Stories are about strong emotions. But the start of any story is where somebody decides to do something about their emotions.

What are the emotions of your story and when do the people decide to do something with them?

Everyone writes good stories, it's writing that rough draft and polishing it until it's done that's hard.

What's the problem you're having with your intro?
