Hello all,

I read this book in the early to mid 90s from a public library, I believe the book was printed or reprinted in the 80s not sure. It's think it was in the Fantasy section but don't remember. It started out with a guy that had just came of age(14,15,16 not sure) got drunk, had sex, maybe been robbed not sure. In the book he mentioned a wizards war that created a wasteland.

This part I'm not for sure if it's the same book or maybe another: I believe he was raised by a blacksmith, but not his son. lived close to a castle. was friends with the kings/lords daughter/son don't remember exactly. I think he was searching for some magical item, don't think it was a sword.

I've looked at a bunch of websites for fantasy books, but couldn't find anything that looked like it. Cook sounds familiar but it could be from another book I read. Might have been from a writer that used an alias for the authors name.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds a bit like Shadow of a Dark Queen by Raymond E. Feist. The central character is called Erik. He isn't friends with a lord's daughter though. However, that bit sounds like Magician by the same author.

I've read most of Raymond E. Feist books, and the one I'm looking for is in a different style. Thanks for trying though

read some about Lee Modesitt's The Magic of Recluse looks to be good but not the book I was looking for.

This part I'm not for sure if it's the same book or maybe another: I believe he was raised by a blacksmith, but not his son. lived close to a castle. was friends with the kings/lords daughter/son don't remember exactly. I think he was searching for some magical item, don't think it was a sword.

thinking about this part some more and it's in a different book Deltora Quest - The Forests of Silence.

But the first part I read this book in the early to mid 90s from a public library, I believe the book was printed or reprinted in the 80s not sure. It's think it was in the Fantasy section but don't remember. It started out with a guy that had just came of age(14,15,16 not sure) got drunk, had sex, maybe been robbed not sure. In the book he mentioned a wizards war that created a wasteland.is definitely part of the one I'm looking for.
