Can anyone please tell me a fantasy book that ends with evil triumphing and all good and virtuish characters being destroyed with no chance of overcoming the evil? Thank you all for your input.

If we tell you of such a book won't we then ruin the ending for you?

Well...
I think second book of Azzie - demon, created by Zelazny ends with him triumphing, tho, i am not sure...
i was very upset, when good won in the first book, and now, i am trying to find the second.

Well, it would probably ruin the end for me, but my friend was wondering if there was such a book, because he is tired of evil always losing. I guess he is a pretty dastardly fellow.

Because in humorous fantasy the rules of the game are different. everything can happen there and it will be acceptable, as long as it's poignant and funny. I dare challenge any "serious" mainstream fantasy writer to let evil triumph in a total way, with no sequels to fix things up. (like when "The Empire strikes back" ends with the momentary triumph of evil only to be settled in "Return of the jedy").
In stories we need catharsis, when evil triumphs over good, there is no hope and no catharsis, and no satisfaction. (unless the protagonists are winy and stupid http://www.sffworld.com/ubb/smile.gif)

BTW, I loved the azzie books!

Well, I don't know about evil "conquering all", but GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire comes pretty close. So far, anyway. Although you're never quite sure who the "evil" guys really are...

The Elric Saga, in the end the sword...well I wouldn't want to ruin it for you.

Books in which evil wins?

I can think of many books in which borderling psychotic people rampage across the land, killing countless intelligent creatures and rare wildlife in the process, and stealing valuable artififacts with the intention of unleashing their dangerous powers upon the world.

They're usually called "heroes".

Good and evil... It's just a matter of perspective really.
