Another Favorite topic (duh).

What is your favorite culture, whether it be a people, a city, country, society, anything.

My favorite culture would be the Aiel, all the men are warriors (and good). It would be good, I would just try and not be so serious.

I've always liked scottish culture when talking about the real world, but as for books, I really liked the armored Bear culture in the his dark materials trilogy (I'm not going to try and spell it from memory). I really enjoyed reading about their society, one of my favorites.

Aaaah, so many, so many. If I were forced to choose but one, I'd say the Elvish culture of Lorien Forest would have to be my favourite. Any culture that promotes good music, wine, food and song and peaceful, intelligent and wise company must be a wonderful one. Another interesting culture would be that of the industrious Dwarves of Moria, before its fall. All those great works of stone, finely crafted weapons and armour, jewels and gold, mithril lodes... mmmmmm.

And I could really live it up in Hobbiton too, though I'd make quite a strange-looking and rather tall hobbit.

Almost all of Jordan's various cultures/societies are intriguing and interesting.

Judith Tarr created a wonderful set in the Avaryan Rising books. Much more of an Eastern culture base than the typical Western European one.

Tanith Lee though is one of the best in creating a culture that seems to be unique and live on its own.

Last both Jacqueline Carey and Guy Gavriel Kay take recognizable cultures from 'reality' and shape them into something wonderful.

As JohnH said, the Jordan's cultures are very interesting! Christianisme, Islam Judeisme! Talking about Jordan, that makes me very happy!

And Feist's cultures are very good!
Midkemia = at the rate of statics medieval world
Kelewan = the Japonese and the Chinese cultures!

That would have to be the kender. They are master lockpickers. In their home country of Kendermore when throwing a party the door is locked and people are expected to pick the lock on the door to gain admission to the party. This is the main entertainment for the day.

My favorite group of people would have to be the vrykyl from the Sovereign Stone Trilogy by Weis and Hickman. They are pure evil and they are interesting. I just like these books.

Kender also interest me greatly.
