I was wondering if anyone could recommend good fantasy books that work in mechanical/science/technology..industial revolution tech..not modern day..I think this is called steam punk but I'm not sure..the only example I know of is James Clemens Shadowfall..and even there is just one character with special metal wheelchair/armor

Start with the anthology, Steampunk, edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer; the authors inside write quite a bit of steampunk.

Any of China Mieville's 'New Crobuzon' books for a start. It's also worth checking out Jonathan Green's 'Ulysses Quicksilver' books as they're good fun too.

Spiral beat me to it, but I'll just add (to all new members) the SEARCH (http://www.sffworld.com/forums/search.php) function is your friend.
Also, check out the following threads:

Evrett,
The Light Ages by Ian R. MacLeod fits your description to the T. The sequel is called The House of Storms.
Michael Swanwick's The Iron Dragon's Daughter should be your second port of call.
There are a lot of other titles which you'll be able to discover by reading through the linked threads, however, the aformentioned ones are, far and away, the best of the lot.

I think the Hungry City Chronicles (http://www.booksiamreading.com/stefanhayden/book/1323272249) is some of the best steampunk ever written.
