Looking for Book Title and Author

I am looking for the book title and author.

As a teenager I read a sci fi adventure series about a scientist who died and had his body hermetically sealed in a space capsule and launched into space. The space capsule was found by an alien race hundreds of years later. The aliens took his body out of the space capsule and encapsulated his head in a robot. The alien race then took him on a number of intergalactic adventures.

Does anyone know the title of the series and author and whether or not the books are still available and where?
